Federalism
A system of government in which power is divided and shared between a central (national )government and smaller political units, such as states or provinces.
Delegated Powers
powers specifically given to the federal (national) government by the U.S constitution.
Expressed Powers
Th power of the federal government that are specifically written (expressed) in the U.S constitution.
Implied Powers
Powers of the federal government that are not specifically written in the constitution but are reasonably suggested (implied) by the expressed powers.
Reserved Powers
Powers that are not given to the federal government or denied to the state, so they belong only to the state government. Powe
Concurrent Powers
Powers that are shared by both the federal government and the state government.
Supremacy Clause
if a state passes a law allowing something that federal law forbids (like a certain drug regulations), federal law overrides the state law.
Federal Grants
sum of money given by the federal government to state or local governments to help pay for specific programs, projects, or services.
Mandates
requirements or orders from the federal government that states must follow, usually to receive federal funding.
Extradite
to formally send a person who is accused or convicted of a crime back to the state or country where the crim was commited.
States Rights’ Position
the belief that state government should have more power than the federal government.
Nationalist Position
The belief that the federal government should have more power than the states.
