Strength of standard deviation

More precise, as it includes all values in the final calculation making it a more powerful or sensitive measure of disputation than the range

From knowing the value of the standard deviation and the mean, the probability of any given value of score can be predicted

Weakness of standard deviation

-can be distorted by a single value

-for standard deviation, data must form a normal distribution curve- it is less effective of the distribution of scores if there are outliars
