thin, long bone with two expanded ends
the fibula is located
lateral to the tibia
fibular head
superior, proximal end
inferior projection which forms the lateral bulge of the ankle
lateral malleolus
the lateral malleolus articulates with the
talus of the foot
shaft
heavily ridged, appears to have been twisted a ¼ turn
the fibula does not bear weight but
several muscles originate from it
fractures most often occur at the
medial and lateral malleoli of the tibia and fibula
the fractures are caused by
inversion and eversion of the foot at the ankle
