Existentialism
Each man exists as an individual in a purposeless universe, and he must oppose his hostile environment through the exercise of his free will.
Nihilism
The belief that there is no meaning or purpose in existence.
Solipsism
The theory that the self is the only thing really existent.
Heroism
Qualities of bravery and noble action; admired by others.
Nationalism
Patriotism; national interests are most important.
Imperialism
An empire of many nations and areas all controlled by a central government.
Objectivism
The doctrine that stresses the objective reality of all that is known or perceived (an object as distinguished from something existing only in the mind).
Materialism
The doctrine that matter is the only reality, explaining everything in terms of matter; comfort, pleasure, and wealth are the highest goals or values.
Anarchism
The belief that all forms of government interfere unjustly with individual liberty and are, therefore, undesirable.
Dogmatism
The expression of an opinion or belief as if it were a fact; positiveness in assertion of opinion, especially when unwarranted or arrogant.
Determinism
The belief that everything is entirely determined by a sequence of causes, with choice of action not being free but determined by causes independent of will.
Isolationism
A policy of remaining apart from the affairs or interests of other groups, especially the political affairs of other countries.
Empiricism
The theory that sensory experience is the only source of knowledge, relying on personal experience and observation while disregarding theory and reasoning.
Pessimism
The belief that the existing world is the worst possible, with evil outweighing good; the practice of focusing on the dark side.
Mysticism
The doctrine that communion with God can be achieved through contemplation and love, without the medium of human reasoning; attaining spiritual truths through intuition.
