Phantom Ride (Camera Shot)
Film from a prospective of an unseen vehicle.
Three Point Lighting
a lighting technique used in movies and film. It consists of a key light, a back light, and a fill light.
Jump Cut
A jump from one scene to another with no transitions added in. its used to go from one shot to another
Deep Focus
A technique that makes sure everything in the scene is in focus and is done by using a large field depth.
Flash Forward
A scene abruptly skips ahead in time This can be seen in media, writing, and other forms of art. It’s the opposite of a flashback
Subjective Camera Shot
A camera shot that occurs in the point of view of a character, this is why it's also called a POV shot. It’s usualy used to create suspense.
UnderCranking
A filming technique where the camera is operated at a slower frame rate than normal, resulting in motion that appears faster when played back at standard speed.
Rule of Thirds
A compositional guideline that suggests dividing the frame into a 3x3 grid, placing important elements along the lines or at their intersections to create balance and interest.
SteadiCam
A camera worn by the user to film with ease
Established Shot
A scene that provides context to the audience. Typically it tells when or where the film is happening.
Overcranking
A filming technique where the camera records at a higher frame rate than normal, resulting in slow-motion playback.
180 degree rule
a guideline on how to position the camera when filming. The key is to keep the camera on one side of the imaginary axis
Slugline
The scene heading that tells the reader where the story is taking place. It is in all caps and can be found in the beginning of the screenplay. They can be used to identify the scene, break up two scenes, and help with production logistics.
Zoom Lens
A lens that helps smoothly move between a far way shot of a close up shot. It does this by varying the focal length.
An Allen Smithee Film
A fake name used for films who were taken by the director.
Dolly zoom
A hot that makes the person appear the same size as the camera moves. The camera dollies away from the subject but the zoom adjusts the film in the opposite direction. Its used to create a sense of unease
Spec Script
An original screenplay written. But without s deal made with a studio or business/ It’s just speculative, hence the name.
Shot reverse Shot
A shot with a character in it. Then cuts to what said character is looking at them, then back at the character to see their reaction.
Preproduction
Work done for a film before production begins. This includes finalizing the script, finding filming locations, getting a budget, and determining equipment.
Post Production
Work done for a film after the production ends. This includes things like editing clips and audio.
