When something is cubed it means…

It is to the power of 3 (x³)

2
New cards

to find the x root of x means…

ex. what is the fourth root of 16

it means to find the what number to the x power = x

ex. what is the fourth root of 16?

2^4 = 16

3
New cards

What does it mean for a number to be a prime number?

A number is prime if the number can only be multiplied by the number itself and 1.

ex. 3 can only be the product of 1 and 3

4
New cards

What is the mode?

The number that occurs the most in the set

5
New cards

What is the mean?

The sum of all the numbers in the set divided by the number of instances.

6
New cards

What is the median?

The number in the middle of set in order of least to greatest

7
New cards

What does the symbol ! mean?

ex. 5!

! means to times x by the nearest smallest whole number until 1

ex. 5!

(5)(4)(3)(2)(1) = 120

8
New cards

How to you find the largest (or smallest) of given fractions?

>Find the least common denominator of all the fraction

> then determine the largest (or smallest) fraction

9
New cards

How do you convert a percent into a fraction?

Put the fraction over 100.

ex. 24%

>24/100

>24/100 /4 (simplify the fraction)

> 6/25

New cards

How do change a number into scientific notation?

Ex. Change 323,000 into scientific notation

> move the a the decimal to the left until it is to the right of the first number

>the amount of times the decimal is moved over is the exponent of 10

Ex. Change 323,000 into scientific notation

answer: 3.23 × 10^5

(since the original number (323,000) is larger than 3.23, the answer is positive)

11
New cards

What part of a differential equation is “added up to” and which part is “multiplied to”

ex. x² -6x +9 =

>the middle number is added up to and the last number is multiplied to

>ex. x² -6x +9 =

-3-3 = 6

-3 x -3 = 9

Answer: (x-3) (x-3)

12
New cards

If the equation looks something like this: 2/3(6x.- 9) +4 > 5x +1

and in the end it ends up like this: -x > 3

you have to multiply the -x by -x to make it positive…. and if you do that… what happens?

You have to reverse the sign.

(making the > sign a < sign)

13
New cards

What is the formula for the volume of a square?

V = lwh

14
New cards

What is the formula for a finite arithmetic sequence?

s = n/2 (a+b)

n - the number of terms

a - the first number in the sequence

b - the last number of the sequence

ex. what is the sum of the integers 1 to 300

s = 300/2 (1 + 300)

s = 150(301)

s = 45,150

15
New cards

(y²)³ can be rewritten as…

(y²)(y²)(y²)….

which is… y² + ² + ² = y^6
