Transport oxygen and carbon dioxide .I

12
New cards

What are 3 physical characteristics of RBCs ?I

  1. Biconcave

  2. disk shaped

  3. No nuclei

13
New cards

What is the lifespan of RBCs ?I

120 days .I

New cards

What is the lifespan of a platelet ?i

About 7 days .i

30
New cards

State the blood clotting process (5 points) .i

  1. Injury to a blood vessel

  2. Broken vessel releases chemicals to attract platelets

  3. Platelets release a chemical that combines with the blood to form an enzyme called thromboplastin

  4. Thromboplastin reacts with prothrombin to make the enzyyme thrombin

  5. Thrombin reacts with fibrinogen to produce fibrin. Fibrin is insoluble and forms a net around the injured area. This traps blood cells and forms a clot.
