Specification
It is the attempt on the part of the consumer to tell the procedure what is wanted. Obviously, the skill and accuracy with which thing can be specified depends upon the state of knowledge concerning it and on the precision with which its qualities can be determined.
Standard Specification
A notable development of the twentieth century. It is usually the result of agreement among those concerned in a particular field and involves acceptance for use by participating agencies.
Mineral Aggregates
In the form of sand, gravel, crushed stone, crushed slag, pumice and manufactured products.
Absorption
It is the property of aggregate particles to absorb water into their pores
Los Angeles Abrasion Test
It evaluates the aggregates toughness and abrasion resistance. In this test, aggregates blended to a fixed size distribution are placed in a large steel drum with standard - sized steel balls that act as an abrasive charge. The drum is rotated, typically for 500 revolutions. The material is recovered from the machine and passed through a sieve that retained all the original material. The percentage weight loss is the abrasion number.
Cement
These are materials that exhibit properties of setting and hardening when mixed to a paste with water.
Hydration
As long as moisture is present, the reactions, called _____________ may continue for years, adding continually to the strength of the mixture
Gypsum
A predetermined percentage of _____________ is added to regulate the setting time that will be required for a particular cement.
Tricalcium Aluminate
Liberates a large amount of heat during the first few days of hardening. It contributes to early strength development. It reacts with Gypsum for the retardation of setting
Pozzolan
A siliceous or siliceous and aluminous material, which in itself possesses little or no cementitious value but which will, in finely divided form and in the presence of moisture, chemically react with calcium hydroxide
Normal Consistency
The test method is intended to be used to determine the amount of water to prepare hydraulic cement pastes for testing. It determines the volume of water to be added in cement paste
Normal Consistency
It is a measure of fluidity or wetness of the concrete and is measured by the slump test
Vibrator
These shall be used for consolidation only., and not for moving concrete horizontally aling the forms
Curing
It is keeping the concrete moist so that hydration of the cement can continue. Curing improves greatly the surface condition and general quality of concrete.`
Curing
To prevent evaporation of water, cover the specimens with non-absorbtive, non-reactive plate - a sheet og tough, durable impervious plastic
Concrete
derived from the Latin word 'concretus' which means "growing together".
Concrete
Mixture of cement, aggregates and water. When mixed in specific proportions, it hardens to a strong stony consistency over varying lengths of time.
Admixtures
These are those ingredients in concrete other than Portland cement, water and aggregates that are added to the mixture immediately before or during mixing.
Admixtures
The finer the sannd, there would be greater shrinkage
Tamping Rod
it is used to consolidate fresh concrete specimens in various test applications to measure slump, Air Content, and Strength
