8yr old sarah payne was abducted whilst playing in a field, then murdered (by a known sex offender)

news of the world ran sarahs campaign- ran petitions, brought campaign to publics attention + used school pics to provoke emotions

campaign brought the ‘child sex offender disclosure scheme’ - public can see child sex offenders in area
however issues with vigilante as ppl attacking those w record
Clares law - beginning
Clare was beaten, raped, strangled to death, then set alite by her ex partner (had previous convictions)

michael campaigned so others wouldnt end up in clares situation, he attended womens groups + went on radio where slammed shoe… - gained lots of awareness

‘domestic violence disclosure scheme’ introduced, which gave ppl the right to ask + right to know about a past of domestic violence in own partner / someone they know
PAS - beginning
founded by 2 mothers, whose daughters were stalked and murdered
many stalking victims weren’t recognised as the 1997 anti-harassment law didn’t refer to stalking specifically
PAS - middle
PAS has worked with communities to raise public awareness and educate ppl + provided a national stalking helpline
PAS- end
protection of freedoms act 2012 amended the 1997 act , so laws are more specific to stalking and it will not be ignored
