What is diffusion?
The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
Give an example of diffusion?
When a fragrance gets spray it diffuses through the air until evenly spread
What is osmosis?
the movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration
What is a hypertonic solution?
A solution in which cells have a higher water potential than the solution. Shriveled cells
What is an Isotonic solution?
A solution in which the water potential is equal between cells and solution
What is a hypotonic solution?
A solution in which cells have a lower water potential than the solution. Cells swell
What is active transport?
the movement of molecules across a cell membrane from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration, against the concentration gradient, requiring energy
What does active transport require?
energy in the form of ATP
How many chromosomes do humans have?
46
How many chromosomes does a baby get from each parent?
23
What is mitosis?
A type of cell division where a single cell divides to produce two identical cells
