- An evaluation or belief (can be favorable or unfavorable)
- Can be based on inaccurate information or stereotypes

Bias in an unconscious manner
- some bias is explicit
- Bias frequently occurs in an unconscious manner (sometimes called a bias blind spot)
Implicit Bias
- Example of a bias operating unconsciously
- Sometimes used interchangeably with unconscious bias, but can also have distinctions
- Defined as the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner
- Can sometimes run contrary to our explicit/conscious values or beliefs
- Operate outside our conscious awareness
IATS Research
- Significant amount of research has shown that unconscious bias exists
- Has been debated about the degree to which implicit bias leads to unconscious behavior
Ethnocentrism
- view that our way of doing things are ordinary and better than other approaches
Perception of Cause
- flawed belifes concerning what caused a problem (can affect a decisions quality)
Focus on the people
- Most people tend to blame a person when assessing blame
Breadth
- Requires we account for potential affects of all stakeholders
Simplifying consequences
- Some potential outcomes are ignored, leads to bias by ignoring low-probability events
Ignoring the public may "Find OUt"
- Mangers should consider public's reaction to decision made and reasons for it
Discounting the future
- Prioritizing short term benefits over long term consequences
Overconfidence
- Can lead to clouded-biased decisions
Denial of Responsibility
- They believe they have no other choice than to participate in such activities
Denial of Injuiry
- They believe no one is harmed from their actions, meaning their actions are not really corrupt
Denial of the victim
- Actors counter any blame by stating the harmed party deserved it
Condemning the Condemnersq
- They shift attention away from their actions to the motives of the ones enforcing the rules or standard applied against them
Appeal to Higher Loyalties
- They argue their actions were for the better of a higher order value
Metaphor of the Ledger
- They believe they can act badly based on accrued merit
Claim of Entitlement
- They justify their behavior by stating they deserved the result of their behavior
Claim of Relative Acceptability/ Normality
- Actors justify their conduct by comparing to others, whom they believe are worse
