Lectio Divina
“Divine Reading” + Ancient Benedictine practice of prayerful scripture reading
Goal: Encounter God, not just study the text. A journey of listening, reflecting, responding, and resting
Step 1: LECTIO (READING)
Read the passage slowly and attentively
Notice words or phrases that stands out
Listen if God is speaking directly to you
Step 2: MEDITATIO (MEDITATION)
Reflect on the meaning of the text
Ask: What is God trying to tell me personally?
Let the word resonate in your heart
Step 3: ORATIO (PRAYER)
Respond to God with a prayer
Speak from the heart: thanksgiving, petition, praise
Begin with a dialogue with God
Step 4: CONTEMPLATIO (CONTEMPLATION)
Rest silently in God’s presence
Move beyond words into communion
Allow transformation to happen
Step 5: ACTIO (ACTION)
Live out the word in daily life
Let scripture inspire concrete deeds
Faith becomes practice

Lesson 2: GOD CREATED MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE AND LIKENESS
BIBLICAL FOUNDATION
God created man in His own image and likeness
Genesis 1:26-27 teaches that God created human beings in His image and likeness. This gives every person unique dignity and value
KEY CONCEPTS
IMAGE OF GOD
Human reflects God's qualities in a limited way through reason, creativity, moral awareness, love and the ability to form relationships.
LIKENESS OF GOD
Likeness refers to humanity's call to grow in holiness, goodness, love, and obedience to God.
HUMAN DIGNITY
Because every person bears God's image, all people deserve respect regardless of age, ability, culture, status or background.
HUMAN FREEDOM & RESPONSIBILITIES
God gave human beings free will. We are responsible for our choices and called to use our freedom for good.
RELATIONSHIP REFLECTS GOD NATURE
Humans are made for relationship – with God, with others and with creation. Love and community reflect God's nature.
STEWARD OF CREATION
Being made in God's image includes taking responsibility for the earth, animals, and resources entrusted to us.
EFFECT OF SIN
Sin damages relationships and obscures God's image in us, but it does not remove our God-given dignity.
LIVING AS GOD’S IMAGE TODAY
Show kindness, humility, compassion, forgiveness, respect and service to others in everyday life.
