PPI meds
pantoprazole, omeprazole, lansoprazole, esomeprazole
pharmacological action
decrease gastric acid production
therapeutic use
long acting, last 72-96 hours
administration
do not crush, give before meals in the morning, evening dose give 1 hour before the meal, takes a few days consistently to take effect, can be taken with antacids
contraindications/prevent complications
increase risk of hip fractures, if given IV form do not give with other IV drugs
complications
loss of protecctive flora can lead to c diff
interactions
can interact with some diuretics and clopidogrel
nursing interventiosn
monitor bowel function and s/s of c diff (watery diarrhea)
