Polar
The molecular property of water that allows many compounds to be dissolved and enables the formation of hydrogen bonds.
Hydrogen Bonds
Bonds formed as a result of water's polarity, which directly cause cohesion and adhesion.
Cohesion
A property caused by hydrogen bonding in water, an example being surface tension.
Adhesion
A property caused by hydrogen bonding in water, an example being capillary action.
Surface Tension
An example of cohesion that allows water striders to stay on top of water.
Capillary Action
An example of adhesion that allows plants to move water.
Heat Capacity
A property that is high in water, allowing it to heat slowly.
Density as a Solid
The property where water as a solid is less dense than as a liquid, allowing it to float.
