Explain the importannce of fair trade in regards to economic sustainability
Poor countries often export raw goods (e.g., coffee beans) but can’t afford to process them.
Processed goods sell for more, but profits go to richer countries (because they end up processing them)
Farmers get low pay, keeping them in poverty.
Fair trade gives fair prices, helping producers earn more and grow their industries and overcome cycle of poverty
Allows for greater particpation in global trade —> revenue and the enhanced ability to enjoy decent stnadard of living + develeop to full potential
