biodiversity the variety of different plants, animals and microorganisms, their genes and the ecosystems of which they are a part

Explain the importannce of fair trade in regards to economic sustainability

  • Poor countries often export raw goods (e.g., coffee beans) but can’t afford to process them.

  • Processed goods sell for more, but profits go to richer countries (because they end up processing them)

  • Farmers get low pay, keeping them in poverty.

  • Fair trade gives fair prices, helping producers earn more and grow their industries and overcome cycle of poverty

  • Allows for greater particpation in global trade —> revenue and the enhanced ability to enjoy decent stnadard of living + develeop to full potential
