Foot binding, because it seemed scandalous to Japan since women have such an active role in their society
Why did foot binding occur?
Because it was a sign of wealth, femininity, and beauty
Why was foot binding hard to stop?
It was hard to stop because it had become the way to get your daughter a good marriage, so people just kept doing it.
Why didn’t the Japanese nobility introduce it to Japan?
They didn’t because women had a more active role in their society and it is hard to have an active role with bound feet.

The samurai completed their task with honor and the ninjas completed their mission by any means necessary

Women had a highly active role in the Heian court and the contributed through art and literature
What was the Tale of Genji?
It was the first full-length novel and it was written by Lady Murasaki Shikibu and it was about the love life and adventures of a fictional prince named Genji
Why was the Tale of Genji so popular?
It was popular because all of the nobles in the Heian Court found it relatable and they liked how it mocked court life.

A place in a kingdom that a lord owns and peasants work the manor’s farms. There are many manors in a kingdom.
How is a manor self sufficient?
They have everything they need to survive: farms and water and protection

A knight would protect a feudal lord and his chosen lady, and he would worship the lord above.
Chivalry:
a code of behavior that stressed bravery and loyalty
What was the role of women in chivalry?
Something that the knights chose. A knight would pick a lady and the lady would have no say whatsoever in the matter.
How were women treated in medieval European society?
Women were more thought of as a thing to be chosen and not actual people
Why were the Crusades fought?
As a way to have something for the knights to do instead of bullying peasants.
How did Pope Urban convince people to join the first Crusade?
He said if you go on this crusade, then you will get into heaven.
What were the short term effects of the Crusades?
Devastating for England with a lot of casualties and no land gain in the end.
What were the long term effects of the Crusades?
Trade boomed as a result of a lot of roads being built so that troops could get to the Holy Land.
How successful were the Crusades?
They had no land gain overall and so many casualties.

Brother of the king of England which was King John. They loved Richard because he was so brave to go on a crusade.

The leader of the Muslims, Saladin and Richard had a mutual respect for each other’s fighting skills.
