7 PROCESSES OF LIFE
Movement, Reproduction ,Sensitivity, Nutrition, Excretion, Respiration, Growth
1.MOVEMENT
Animals – by muscles
2.REPRODUCTION
= production of offsprings -Sexual reproduction - gametes,Asexual reproduction
Life cycle
the series of events from the time an organism reproduces to the time its offsprings reproduce
3.SENSITIVITY
responding to stimuli (1 stimulus), Stimulus – receptor - response
4. NUTRITION
The process by which an organism uses food to support its life
Ingestion
consumption – the process of taking food into the body through the mouth
Digestion
the process of breaking down food by mechanical and enzymatic action in the stomach and intestines
Egestion
defecation - the final act of digestion – the removal of undigested food from the body in the form of faeces
Metabolism
the chemical processes that occur within a living organism in order to maintain life
5.EXCRETION
the getting rid of poisonous substances
6.RESPIRATION
Oxygen is required – different ways of getting it
7.GROWTH
mass and volume increasing
Autotrophs
make their own organic food, Photosynthesis, chemosynthesis
Heterotrophs
required ready-made organic food
types of heterotrophs
Herbivores
Carnivores
Omnivores
Parasites
Saprothrops
Assimilation
the conversion of nutrients into living tissue
