Healthful Foods
Foods that give us energy, help us grow, keep our bodies strong, and help the body stay healthy.
Less Healthful Foods
Foods that may taste good but should be eaten only occasionally because eating too much may not be good for health.

Green card
A visual tool raised by learners to identify a food item as a Healthful Food.
Red card
A visual tool raised by learners to identify a food item as a Less Healthful Food.
Healthful Food Examples
Apple, Banana, Milk, Rice, Fish, Fruits, Vegetables, and Eggs.
Less Healthful Food Examples
Candy, Soft drink, Potato chips, Chips, Doughnuts, and Chocolates.
SNED Support Strategies
Instructional methods including using real food before pictures, giving simple one-step directions, allowing pointing instead of speaking, and providing immediate praise.
Build My Healthy Plate
An activity where learners use picture cards to choose foods they would like to eat for breakfast or lunch.
Grocery Basket Game
An activity where learners place food pictures into either a Healthy Basket or a Less Healthy Basket.
My Lunch Box
An application activity where learners identify which foods in a lunch box are healthy.
