Cell
The basic unit of structure and function in living things. |
Nucleic Acids
Molecules that make up a cell's genetic instructions (DNA).
Proteins
Molecules that perform nearly all functions in a cell. ("worker bees")
Lipids
Molecules that are used to create protective barriers in and around cells.
Carbohydrates
Sugar molecules that give cells energy and support. (Ex: glucose, cellulose)
Glucose
A carbohydrate that cells use for food.
Organelle
Cell structures with specialized functions (Ex: nucleus)
Prokaryote
Simple cells that lack a nucleus.
Eukaryote
Complex cells that contain a nucleus
Photosynthesis
Chemical reaction in some cells that uses sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make glucose and oxygen
Cell Respiration
Chemical reaction that uses glucose and oxygen for making energy in cells
