Aeronautical Fixed Service (AFS)
This is the main communication network used for ground-to-ground communication in aviation. It includes all the systems used to send messages like flight plans, NOTAMs, and weather data between airports, air traffic control, and other aviation offices.
Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN)
The old system within the AFS. Used for many years to send plain-text messages. Think of it like a global fax or telex system for aviation.
ATS Message Handling System (AMHS)
The new system that is replacing AFTN within the AFS. Works like modern email.
SWIM
AFTN is replaced by AMHS, and in the future AMHS will be replaced by?
X.400
The base protocol for AMHS. It is a set of international standards for electronic messaging (email-like communication). It was designed to be very reliable, secure, and structured, mainly for business and government use.

Aeronautical Integrated Data Exchange Agent – Next Gen (AIDA-NG)
It acts as a multi-protocol gateway and message relay system between a number of communication networks. It is able to receive, store, process, and forward messages as regards the aeronautical ground-ground communication networks; as regards traffic transmission between diverse aeronautical networks, it acts as a gateway.

Check if connection problem -> ping server/gateway
Check if multiple retrieval requests are made by ATC -> close retrieval requests tabs
Clear alarms (press F11 2x to open alarms tab)
Close, then re-login CADAS Center terminal
*Note: Ask senior ANS member/ supervisor of the facility for their facility procedure
Troubles at Remote
CADAS hanging
Check if connection problem -> ping server/gateway o If unable to ping server, check VSAT (remote VSAT/VSAT Hub/Server down) o If unable to ping gateway, check LAN cable (blinking/loose/defective)
Check firewall
Check IP settings (static IP Address gateway)
*Note: Ask senior ANS member/ supervisor of the facility for their facility procedure
Troubles at Remote CADAS
no connection
For remote sites with GEO1 and GEO2 VSAT links and when current GEO link is unserviceable, it is possible to use the other link
*Note: ANS remote facilities should already have a copy of procedures.
