What are the 3 major fiber types in the cerebral cortex

• Association Fibers: connect cortical areas within the same hemisphere

• Commissural Fibers: connect cortical areas between hemispheres

  • Ex. corpus callosum and anterior commissure

• Projection Fibers: Connects the cortex to subcortical areas

  • Ex. internal capsule

Anterior Limb: anterior thalamic radiations → Damage results in behavioral problems

Genu: Descending corticobulbar UMN’s → Damage results in contralateral paralysis of lower face

Posterior Limb: Pyramidal UMNs, Extrapyramidal UMNs, Thalamic Radiations → Damage results in contralateral hemiplegia
