Marbury v. Madison (1803)
The first case in which the Supreme Court of the United States invalidated a law passed by Congress- declared it unconstitutional + established the principle of judicial review, allowing the Court to overrule both state and federal laws.

New York Times v US 1971
The President tries to suspend the Times' publication of classified information in its possession. The question before the court was whether the constitutional freedom of the press under the First Amendment was subordinate to the executive's claim of a need to maintain secrecy. Ruled in favor of the New York Times and gave them the right to print said material.
McDonald v. Chicago (2010)
Chicago issued a gun ban and it brought the question of incorporating the 2nd amendment right to bear arms in the States. Due process clause of the 14th amendment extends the 2nd amendments right to bear arms
Gideon v. Wainwright (1963)
extends to the defendant the right of counsel in all state and federal criminal trials, regardless of their ability to pay,( right to a lawyer) 6th amendment
