Present Tense
Used for actions happening in the present; verbs are conjugated in the present form.
Imperfect Tense
Used for actions that were ongoing or habitual in the past.
Perfect Tense
Used for actions that were completed in the past.
Singular Ending in Tenses
In the present, imperfect, and perfect tenses, the singular ends with -t.
Plural Ending in Tenses
In the present, imperfect, and perfect tenses, the plural ends with -nt.
Translation of 'is' and 'are' in Latin
'is' is translated as 'est' in present tense, and 'are' as 'sunt'.
Translation of 'was' and 'were' in Latin
'was' is translated as 'erat' in imperfect tense, and 'were' as 'erant'.
Example of Present Tense Verb
amīcus labōrat means 'The friend works or is working'.
Example of Imperfect Tense Verb
poēta recitābat means 'A poet was reciting'.
Example of Perfect Tense Verb
puella intravit means 'The girl entered'.
Difference between Singular and Plural in Latin
Singular refers to one subject, plural refers to more than one subject.
