Johnston ( Procedure)
QUASI EXPERIMENT: 42 hetero females from ONE COLLEGE asked to view male and female faces over two diff. sessions 2 wks apart. Participants asked to manipulated the faces on a computer using a slider to fit phases given to them “attractive male face“, “dominant male face“.
Johnston(Results)
Only criteria that changed between sessions was “attractive male face” prompt. This change correlated with ovulation periods i the participants reproductive cycles.
Cornwell (Procedure)
QUASI EXPERIMENT: 56 women and 56 men were asked to evaluate photographs of opposite-sex individuals while rating them based on short and long term relationships. Then they were asked to smell 5 naturally occurring scents, including male and female hormones, and rate on pleasantness. Participants' hormonal levels were also measured.
Cornwell(Results)
Women who like more masculine faces like male pheromones. Vice Versa for men who like feminine faces.
Levine(Procedure)
497 males & 673 females from 11 different cultures globally were asked 3 questions(If someone had all the qualities you desired would you marry them regardless of if you were in love?), (If love completely dissipated from a marriage, do you think they should separate?), (In my opinion, loss of love in a marriage is not a reason to separate. Yes or No?)
Levine(Results)
Strong correlation between individualistic cultures and the importance of love. No significant gender difference. Economic status and importance of love was uncorrelated.
