Independent Variable
The variable that is changed or controlled in a scientific experiment to test its effects on the dependent variable.
Substrate Concentration
The amount of substrate present in a reaction, which can affect the rate of enzymatic activity.
pH
A scale used to measure the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.
Diffusion
The movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Light Intensity
The amount of light energy falling on a surface, affecting photosynthesis in plants.
Thermistor
A type of resistor whose resistance varies significantly with temperature.
Specific Heat Capacity
The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of a unit mass of a substance by one degree Celsius.
Control Variable
A variable that is kept constant during an experiment to ensure that any changes in the dependent variable are due to the independent variable.
Energy Content of Fuels
The amount of energy released when a substance undergoes combustion.
Phenolphthalein
A chemical compound used as a pH indicator, which changes color depending on the acidity or basicity of a solution.
Agar Cylinder
A solid block of gelatinous medium used in experiments to test diffusion and other processes.
Liquid Fuels
Fuels that are in a liquid state at room temperature and are used for energy production.
Quadrat
A square frame used for sampling in ecology to measure the abundance of species in a given area.
Amylase
An enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of starch into sugars.
Hydrochloric Acid
A strong acid commonly used in laboratory and industrial applications.
Water Bath
A device used to maintain a constant temperature for samples in beakers or test tubes.
