Integumentary System
Protects tissues, regulates body temperature, supports sensory receptors. and includes skin, hair, nails, sweat glands, and sebaceous glands.
Skeletal System
Includes bones, ligaments, and cartilages. Provides a framework, protects soft tissues, attachments for muscles, produces blood cells, and stores inorganic salts.
Muscular System
Includes muscles. Causes movements, maintains posture, and produces body heat.
Nervous System
Includes brain, spinal cord, nerves, sense organs. Detects changes, processes sensory information, and stimulates muscles and glands.
Endocrine System
Glands that secrete hormones; controls metabolic activities of body structures (e.g., pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pancreas, ovaries, testes, pineal gland, thymus).
Cardiovascular System
Moves blood through the heart and vessels and transports substances throughout the body. includes heart, arteries, capillaries and veins.
Lymphatic System
Returns tissue fluid to the blood, carries certain absorbed food molecules, and defends the body against infection. Includes lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, thymus, and spleen.
Digestive System
Receives, breaks down, and absorbs food; eliminates unabsorbed material (major organs include mouth, tongue, teeth, salivary glands, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and intestines).
Respiratory System
Intake and output of air; exchange of gases between air and blood. major organs include nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs.
Urinary System
Removes wastes from the blood and maintains water and electrolyte balance. major organs include kidneys, uterus, urinary bladder, urethra.
Reproductive System
Male and female systems for producing and maintaining sex cells; male: produce and transfer sperm; female: produce oocytes, receive sperm, support embryo, and birth.
Reproductive system major organs include
man: penis, urethra
female: vagina, ovaries, uterus
