Energy that travels through space or matter.
Ionization
The process that occurs when radiation removes electrons from atoms, creating ions.
Radiography
An imaging specialty that uses electromagnetic energy in the form of X-rays to create medical images.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography
A non-ionizing imaging modality that uses high-frequency sound energy to create medical images.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
A non-ionizing imaging modality that uses high-strength magnetic fields and radio waves to create images of the human body.
CT Scanning
An imaging modality that uses X-ray energy and sophisticated software to acquire hundreds of views and create cross-sectional images as the X-ray tube and detector rotate around the patient.
Nuclear Medicine
A medical imaging specialty that uses nuclear energy from radioactive isotopes emitting gamma radiation to assess physiological functioning.
Radiopharmaceuticals
Radioactive materials administered to patients in nuclear medicine to evaluate physiological functioning.
Cardiovascular Interventional Technology
Procedures performed in a sterile angiography lab using catheters, injected X-ray contrast material, and X-rays to visualize human blood vessels and heart anatomy.
Radiation Therapy
A discipline that uses very-high-energy ionizing radiation to treat malignant tumors.
Medical Dosimetrist
A professional who works with radiation therapists and the oncology team to calculate and administer cancer treatment plans.
