What is Hyaline Cartilage used for and where is it found?

Provides Smooth low-friction surface for joints, and absorb shock (contains Collagen Fibers). Found in between joints and connecting ribs to sternum

What is fibrocartilage and where is it found?

Absorb heavy impacts, resists pulling forces. Found in between vertebra, and in knee joint

What is elastic cartilage and where is it found?

Provides structural support while also allowing for it to bend. Found in ears

What is the cell within Hyaline Cartilage

Chondrocyte, Chondro = cartilage cyte = mature cell

Where are chondrocytes located in the hyaline cartilage?

Within the lacunae (Cavities)

What is the Epiphyseal Plate

Hyaline cartilage plate where new bone growth occurs in long bones, located between the epiphysis and diaphysis
