What are the select criteria
S - Safety (plant safety specifically, will it explode)
En - Environmental
L - Legal (freedom to operate, will you be able to patent this synthesis method)
Ec - Economic, will this be affordable to produce en mass
C - Control, is the reaction well controlled, are you aware of all possible impurities, will any of them kill a patient
T - Throughput, Kg product per unit time.
Atom economy
If atom economy of a reaction is poor you are wasting money - thing to look out for in a reaction scheme
Equivalents
If there are high equivalents you are wasting resources.
Pd
Inclusion of Pd can be problematic as you will need either crystallisation or sulfur washes or chromatography to remove it from product. If you see use of palladium its probably a Suzuki cross coupling, suggest swapping Pd with Ni.
Chromatography
Chromatography is a really slow and expensive purification process at scale.
Brand name
If you see a brand name anywhere ts is expensive as fuck and will not be feasible at commercial scale

Nitrate group and 2’ amines
Will make nitrosomines which are carcinogenic.
Explosive functional groups to look out for:

If you see a formal charge what should you think
ermmm this probably is going to be very exothermic guys are we sure

Vilsmeier chlorination reaction mechanism

Known ‘alerting’ genotoxic structures

Product mass intensity (PMI)

Mitsonobu reaction
