What's the difference between being current and being Proficient

Current- pilot has accomplished the minimum FAA regulatory requirements within a specific time period so they an exercise the privileges of their certificate. (your legal but not proficient to make that flight) Proficient- means the pilot is capable of conducting a flight with a high degree of competence; it requires that the pilot must have a wide range of knowledge and skills. (smart and safe).
