Scientific method
a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and doing experiments

Question
a clear and concise statement of the problem, that the scientist will use an experiment to answer

Hypothesis
An educated guess or prediction about the answer to the experiment or question

collect and record data
information that is collected and recorded in the form of charts or graphs

Analysis/Conclusion
a detailed explanation of the results which may or may not support the hypothesis

controlled variable
the conditions that must be held constant(the same) so as to not influence the outcome of the experiment

independent variable
the one condition that the experimenter varies(changes) to test the hypothesis

dependent variable
the variable that is used to measure the effect of the independent variable (time, length, speed, etc.). Depends on the independent variable.

procedure
a plan for organizing and conducting the experiment
observation
stataments concerning what is actually seen taking place
materials
a list of items needed to conduct the experiment
