SSL Console Operations and Routing

Channel Path Inputs

The inputs offered to the channel path include Channel Mic, Channel Line, and Sub Group.

Monitor Path Inputs

The inputs offered to the monitor path include Tape Monitor (default) and Group Monitor.

Flip

A local or master control used to choose the channel input.

Sub GP

A button that, in Mix Status, accepts group signal into the channel path; it is also the only channel path input that is not patchable.

Ready Group

A button that switches the meter to the group/bus signal, allowing the user to view the signal going to the multitrack recorder.

Ready Tape

A button used in conjunction with Ready Group to access specific monitor and cue functions.

Float

A control that takes the fader feeding the quad bus and redirects it to the routing Matrix.

Omni

A button in the center section that allows the user to talk to all headphone mixes, studio loudspeakers, and slate to tape.

Auxiliary Sends

There are 5 sends on each I/O module for the SSL console, which split post the large VCA fader by default.

Super Cue

A function activated when both the Ready Group and Ready Tape buttons are pressed.

Input + Output buttons (Mix Status)

When pressed down at the same time next to the small fader, they create a post-signal processing, pre-VCA fader split from the channel path into the small fader.

Output button (Mix Status)

When pressed alone next to the small fader, it creates a post-processing, post-VCA fader split into the small fader.

Group Output row

The patchbay row representing the output of the Direct outs and the Multitrack Busses.

SSL Solos

These are destructive by default, but pressing the AFL button in the Centre section will make them non-destructive.

Mini button

A monitor selection button used to engage the Yamaha NS10s.

Echo Returns

Stereo returns located in the center section of the console.

Routing Matrix

A console section containing 36 total busses.

Multitrack Returns

The name of the patchbay row that represents the output of the multitrack recorder.

IN button (Insert)

The button that activates an outboard dynamics processor once it has been patched using rows E and F.

Direct Outputs 1-24

The outputs that go directly to the Studer MTR.

Direct Outputs 25-48

The outputs that go directly to the Pro Tools HD System.

Channel Line Input > Large VCA Fader > Quad Bus.

Monitor Path Signal Flow (Mix Status)

Tape Monitor Input > Small Fader > Routing Matrix.

Channel Path Signal Flow (Record Status)

Channel Mic Input > Large VCA Fader > Routing Matrix.

Monitor Path Signal Flow (Record Status)

Tape Monitor Input > Small Fader > Quad Bus.

Rows C and J

The patch rows where the outputs of the MTRs appear.
