slow movements can show feelings of sadness

tempo (speed of movements): slow movements in a scarf dance

coordination (using parts of the body together smoothy and efficiently): having dancers hit movements simultaneously allows emotion to be conveyed more dramatically

improv allows a dancer to express and explore themselves in dance. Can find movement they enjoy while doing improvisation, and create a dance based off those movements,

2
New cards

Using your knowledge of human development, describe two ways that play affects cognitive development in K-2

helps develop prosocial skills (caring, comforting, empathy, kindness). Playing building blocks or legos, allows for children to learn to share and practice problem solving skills by using their imagination to create something

helps develop cooperation: relay races (fast walking, jumping, skipping) allows children to work on a team towards a common goal.

Tragedy: focuses on a tragic hero. Encounters difficulty and is eventually brought down by his personal flaw.

Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is tragic hero, flaw is reckless passionate love. Talk about the play and how it shows characteristics of a tragedy

Describe a physical activity for 6-8th grade that uses locomotor and manipulative movement skills

relay race that uses equipment while performing each race. Dribbling a basketball, dribbling a soccer ball

5
New cards

language needs and its characteristics differ from students in K-2 and 6-8

K-2: phonological awareness, solid foundation of phonics, rhyming, develop reading skills, foundation of literacy (more semantic)

6-8: more pragmatic (critical thinking) able to understand figurative language, ability to analyze text

9
New cards

10 year old girl wants a fitness plan to workout upper body or shoulders and abdomen

baseball, talk about the movements that promote shoulder strength like throwing and hitting. Hitting also works the abdomen

2-3 times a week for about an hour

also promotes cardiovascular health from running. children need at least 20 minutes of aerobic activity for a healthy lifestyle

10
New cards

activity for 6-8th grade that promotes locomotor and non locomotor movements, how can this be changed to promote equity for all students

kickball. locomotor- running the bases, non locomotor-catching, kicking, throwing

teacher can choose the teams instead of students. If students pick, self esteem can be affected

personal development: self esteem may increase

12
New cards

choose one factor that will affect the social emotional development (or sense of identity) in a child grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 (choose one) and explain how it affects them. How can adults help children find their sense of identity

sense of identity: who we are as individuals and as members of social groups

K-2: making friends can affect all of these. If kids dont make friends early on, they may lack certain social emotional development appropriate for their age group.

Socially: students may not know how to share properly, how to problem solve with others, or play cooperatively

emotionally: children may feel left out, may not want to come to school, can lower self esteem

sense of identity: making friends helps children figure out their sense of identity. Sharing beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes which can help shape ones identity

Adults can help by allowing children to make mistakes and learn from them, fostering a culture of acceptance, allow children to explore and experience. Example: as a teacher, allowing children to be in charge of tasks and sometimes other students can aide in shaping their sense of identity.

13
New cards

Explain two ways in which environmental factors affect physical development of a child in k-2

diet: poor diet can have child physically delay. Normally when a child grows older they get taller and gain weight, this may not occur in a timely manner if the child is receiving a poor diet without proper nutrition.

stress: if the child faces a lot of stressful factors, they can develop anxiety or low sense of self. Stress can also physically make one sick. If one is constantly worrying about outside factors they may forget to eat or drink water and can become faint. Stress has also led to people becoming ill

14
New cards

Compare social emotional development in k-2 and compare it to 7-8

social: ability to create and sustain relationships with peers

emotional: how child expresses, manages, and recognizes emotions

K-2: socially: difficulty understanding other points of view, learning how to play with others (sharing, problem solving, playing cooperatively), may be hard for some children to make friends.

emotionally: harder to manage emotions. Normally, reactions occur very quickly after an experience happens, example → crying immediately when they get their feelings hurt. Emotions also shift quicker, easier to redirect as this age

7-8: socially: children begin to hang out with friends based on popularity, able to understand that other have different points of view and backgrounds, still could be difficult to make friends

emotionally: should have a better scope on their emotions, may have some methods to use to help calm themselves (breathing techniques), might be starting puberty so their emotions could be out of balance and harder to manager or process as well.

harmonies: sound of two or more notes heard at the same time: use of these would allow for more emotion to be felt

can be presented at a sporting event as some sort of victory song. England soccer
