Electronic Data Processing
The act of collecting data, turning it into information, and then using this information for decision-making into its useful form.
Data
Anything that you enter/input into a computer.
Input-Process-Output
What is the electronic data processing cycle
Input
it refers to all activities associated with recording data and making it available for processing
Processing
It includes different arithmetic and logical operations such as classifying, sorting, summarizing, comparing, and other manipulation techniques that convert data into information.
Output
It converts data into information that will be transmitted to the users of information. It is also the result of the process
Storage
It contains the processed data for future use and is a hardware component of a computer that permanently stores data.
Hardware, Software, Peopleware
What are the components of electronic data processing
Firmware
is a software that provides low-level control of computing device hardware
Hardware
It is the physical aspects of computers you can actually touch and contributes the computer system that performs the mechanics of operations
Monitor, power supply, cooling fan, mouse, audio speakers, motherboard, ram, etc
Examples of hardware
Software
Is the intangible part of the computer system that stores programs or data and it tells the computer what steps to take, what data to work on and what to do with the results.
Peopleware
It refers to anything that has to do with the role of people in the development or use of computer software and hardware systems.
Computer
is a programmable machine that can store, retrieve, and process data and performs a specific task or calculations depending on the set of instructions, or programs.
Super computer
very fast and most powerful computers and used in high-end scientific research centers, weather forecasting and other complicated tasks.
Mainframe
is a powerful multi-user computers that can support many hundreds or thousands of users simultaneously
Mini computer
mid-sized multi-user computer that are capable also for doing high-end processing but smaller compared to mainframe computers.
Personal computer
they are single-user computers which are portale and are easy to handle and use, they are also called microcomputers.
Microcomputer
is a small, rellatively inexpensive computer that is designed for individual use.
Personal digital assistant
What does PDA stand for?
Personal digital assistant (PDA)
it is designed to perform only specific task and can serve as your diary and a telephone.
Tablet computer
it is a wireless and flat screen computer which can be used for researching, playing games, watching movies, and listening to music.
Digital, Analog, Hybrid
Types of computers
Analog computers
computer that works by measuring rather than counting, like measuring graphs, voltage, pressure, speed and temperature.
Digital computers
these computers can handle more complex computations and process data at a higher speed. it can perform arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and also logical operations.
General purpose and Special purpose
2 types of purpose of digital computers
General purpose
are the computers commonly used today
Special purpose
are used for specific task or to solve a problem
Hybrid computers
combine the best features of analog and digital computers, it has the speed of analog and the accuracy of the digital. they are fast, reliable and provide accurate results.
