Following moral rules as an obligation because following the rules if not what we really want to do since it is not the path to true happiness.

the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount on the meaning of and way to true happiness

given to us by god with the purpose of leading us back to god | faith, hope, love/charity

faith

belief in god and all that he has revealed | both a gift from god

hope

placing our trust in god's promises | gives us the ability to persevere in difficulty | keeps us from seeking happiness in things that cannot satisfy us

love/charity

a Christian loves God above all things before all else, and loves his neighbor as himself for the love of God.

blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

be humble

blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth

respect other people's freedom

blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted

be aware and supportive to other people's hardships

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied

treat other people with respect and work for justice for all people

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy

forgive yourself and others

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God

practice charity and do not expose yourself to things that will harm you

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God

be a peacemaker and a bridge builder by listening to those with different ideas and seeking truth

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

do what is right and speak the truth
