Limiting Reactants
The reactant in an equation that stops the complete reaction of the other reactants after the reactant that has been completely used up
helps determine how much product formed
Excess Reactant
The reactant that wasn’t able to fully react before the reaction ended
Calculations for a Limiting Reactant Equation:
BALANCED CHEMICAL EQUATION
Write down the mass of both reactants and determine their moles
Using mole ratios, calculate the mole in relation to the product that you want to produce (FOR BOTH REACTANTs)
Determine which of the two or more reactants has the smallest moles
Using the limiting reactant mole amount determine the amount of product is produced
