Atrial Diastole & Ventricular Diastole (Relaxation & Filling): Both the atria and ventricles are relaxed. Blood flows from the veins into the atria, and then passively fills the ventricles.
Atrial Systole (Contraction): The atria contract, pushing the remaining blood into the ventricles.
Ventricular Systole (Contraction): The ventricles contract, pumping blood out to the lungs and the rest of the body. During this time, the atria are relaxing (atrial diastole) and refilling with blood.
