Isotopes
The same element of an atom with different mass (amount of neutrons)
Classes of Elements
There are two classes of elements.
Types of Elements
Elements are subdivided into three types.
Alkaline Metals
Group A2, Form basic compounds.
Alkali Metals
Group A1
Halogens
Group 7A
Noble gases
Group 8A
Basic Compounds
Compounds with alkaline properties.
Metals
Elements with high melting and boiling points, high conductivity of heat and electrical current, and are solid at room temperature. Also like to lose electrons and become cations.
melting point
The temperature at which a solid substance changes into a liquid.
boiling points
The temperature at which a liquid changes into a gas or vapor.
Nonmetals
A type of element that typically lack metallic properties. They generally have lower melting and boiling points compared to metals and are poor conductors of heat and electricity. Nonmetals tend to gain electrons to become anions.
Metalloid
A type of element that have properties of both metals and nonmetals. Their conductivity can vary, making them useful as semiconductors. Examples include silicon and germanium, which are commonly used in electronic devices.
