Factors Altering Contrast Type and Volume
Age (contrast agents on children and the elderly can be hazardous), Weight, Medications, Impaired renal or liver function, Laboratory results (high Creatinine, high BUN), Perforated bowel
Priority Patients for Diagnostic Imaging
Fasting patients, Emergency patients, Pediatric and geriatric NPO patients, Diabetics delaying insulin due to NPO requirements
Prophylaxis for CM Reactions
Test dose for 10 mins before full dose (10 cc of saline with CM, observe for mild reaction), Pretreatment with steroids, Pretreatment with antihistamine, Use of LOCM instead of HOCM, Reducing anxiety by reassuring the patient
