Qualifications to become President
Natural-born citizen, at least 35 years old, lived in the US for at least 14 years.
How long can a president serve?
Two terms of four years each, as stated in the 22nd Amendment.
Article II of the Constitution
Provides the powers and responsibilities of the President and the Executive Branch.
Role of Chief Executive
The President has final authority, executes laws, grants pardons, and nominates judges.
Role of Commander in Chief
The President directs military operations, can send troops overseas but cannot declare war.
State of the Union Address
An annual address where the President outlines the goals and direction for the country.
Informal role: Political Party Leader
The President leads their political party and supports candidates within it.
Executive Order
A directive issued by the President that has the same weight as law.
How is an Executive Order checked?
The Judicial Branch can declare it unconstitutional, and the Legislative Branch can pass a law contradicting it.
Vice President's role as President of the Senate
The Vice President presides over Senate sessions and can cast tie-breaking votes.
Reason for the creation of the Electoral College
To balance power between smaller and larger states and ensure knowledgeable electors determine the president.
Regular Veto
The President vetoes a bill, which can be overridden by a 2/3 vote in Congress.
Pocket Veto
The President takes no action on a bill for 10 days, preventing it from becoming law.
Impeachment process
The House can impeach by a majority vote; the Senate conducts the trial and requires a 2/3 majority for removal.

Supreme Court ruled against Nixon's claim of executive privilege regarding withholding evidence.
War Powers Resolution
Limits the President's ability to engage troops without Congressional approval.
22nd Amendment
Limits the number of terms a President can serve to two.

Comprises various organizations that support the President's work.
White House Staff
Composed of individuals who directly support the President's day-to-day operations.
The Cabinet
Comprises heads of executive departments who advise the President on various issues.
