What is the difference between legal issues and ethical issues
legal issues are laws while ethical issues are professional standards of right and wrong
3 main categories of ethical issues
confidentiality, competence, choice
What is confidentiality
keeping anything confidential that the client reveals or discloses
What is competence
the counselor will receive the proper degrees and licenses to do this
What does choice mean
the client must be able to decide for themselves whether to participate with all of the available information to consent
Mandatory reporting
If you have reasonable belief that something such as child abuse is occurring, you are required to bring this to the attention of authorities or else you may be found at fault as well
Four ways of serving as an instrument of change
Love, Know, Speak, Do
What does it mean to love (IoC)
enter the person's world and identify with their suffering- show them the love of Christ

be aware of the situation, the person's thoughts, and their motives
