Under Mongol rule, what happened to Moscow?

Moscow grew in wealth and power. Moscow would continue to grow long after the Mongols were defeated in Russia, and the lands were reclaimed by native russians. The City would grow in prominence and power through the years. Moscow still today is one of the most powerful cities in the world, as it is the current capital of Russia.

Khanate of the Golden Horde: It is important to note that although the Russians still had influence and conducted a large amount of commerce and trade, the overall power in russia rested with the mongols. The russians were forced to pay tribute to Mongols and could not raise any type of defense against the mongol leaders.

Yaroslav the Wise- The son of the ruler vladimir. Yaraslov took the and led Kiev to even greater heights than his father. He would marry off his daughters to kings and princes in western europe to form alliances and promote trade. Yarolsov also created a legal code that was tailored to the principalities' commercial culture. He also built the first library in Kiev. Under his reign the Christasn faith flourished, there were more than 400 churches in Kiev during the height of his reign

Saint Methodius and Saint Cyril: The invention of the slavic alphabet led to increased literacy among the slavic populations in the regions. It also led to more converts to the christian faith, as more people could read and understand religious texts in their own languages

During the 8th-century dispute over icons, who supported the use of icons?

the Pope: It is important to note that Pope Leo III first outlawed the use of Icons in the Year 730 Byzantine Emperor Leo III would ban the use of Icons. Emperor Leo III believed that the use of icons was a form of idol worship which was prohibited by Christianity.  Both the Western and Eastern Churches utilized Icons in worship. During this time the Pope supported the use of icons. As time passed Byzantine emperors upheld the ban on the Use of icons.  The pope even excommunicated one Byzantine emperor for upholding the ban. In the Year 843 Theodora the wife of Justian would remove the ban on Icons, this move would still prove to late as the rift between the Churches of the East and west continued to grow, and in 1054 the two spilt. The Roman Catholic Church in the West, and the Orthodox Church in the East.
