A rigid policy of segregation of the non-white population in South Africa. It's illegal now.

Pan-Africanism

To unite all African Countries Politically.

South African black anti-Apartheid activist ; president of South Africa 1994-99.

Hindu Political leader in India: First Prime minister of the Republic of India 1947-64.

Mohandas Gandhi

Hindu religious leader leader, nationalist, and social reformer (from india)

Muhammad Ali Jinnah

A lawyer & Polititian who fought for India's independence from Britian and created a muslim State in Pakistan in 1947.

Partition of India

The British Empire granted India's Independence in 1997. Seferated into India & East & nest Pakistan.

Pakistan

Between India & Afghanistan; formerly part of British India's known as hest Pakistan from 1947-71 to distinguish it from East Pakistan.

India

A country that was formerly a British Colony. Gained its independence Aug. 1947.

Kashmir

An area that Indian Pakistan have been fighting over Scince 1947.

Bangladesh

former Providence of Pakistan that was called East Pakistan.

Palestine

a former British mandate (1923-45) Comprimising Part of this country, divided between Israel, Jordan, and Egypt in 1948.

Israel

A republic formed as a Jewish State May 1948, capital: Tel Aviv

PLO

Palestinian Liberation organization. Established as a result of the re-establishment of Israel. It calls for an Independent Palestine.

Intifada

a revolt begun in Dec. 1987 by Palastinian Arabs to protest Israel's ocupation of the west bank and Gaza Strip.

World Bank

Part of the United Nations, established in 1949. grant's loans to help member nations reconstruct & devebe.

Indian National Congress

A large Political Party in India- encouraged independence & has supported by Nehru & Gandhi.

Non-Violent Protest

Gandhi inspired others with his policy of Non-aggression, Protests, speeches, hunger strikes, boycotts, etc. which led to the independence of India.

Zionism

A movement for the re-establishment of Isreal for the Jewish people.

Muslim League

The leauge wanted to create an independent Muslim nation to ensure Muslins had a voice in govern ment.

Gandhi

Called Mahatma
