The Quebec Act was intended ti deal with and provide for the french Canadians who were now under British control. It set up from them a rigid political system, made Roman Catholicism the official religion of Quebec, and extended the territorial boundaries of Quebec southward to the Ohio river, Although none of these provisions directly affected the American colonists, they feared that the act presented the danger of infringements on their own freedoms in the future. Catholicism's rise in the West enraged many American Protestants. They also feared that the act might set a precedent that would Parliemnt to establish Anglicanism as the state religion in America.
