Human-environment interaction
Explains how people adapt to, depend on, and change their environment in a back-and-forth relationship where the physical world shapes how people live, and people make choices that shape the physical world.
Modification
Happens when people change the environment to meet human needs, such as building dams, roads, tunnels, bridges, farms, and cities.
Adaptation
Happens when people adjust their behaviors, routines, buildings, or ways of life to fit the environment, such as building homes on stilts or wearing clothing suited to climate.
Sustainability
Using natural resources in a way that protects the environment for future generations.
Built environment
Includes human-made surroundings where people live and work, such as roads, cities, bridges, parks, and neighborhoods.
