Bi-annual Training
A four to eight-hour program scheduled twice a year containing a curriculum of fire, EMS, human resources, and other material prescribed by Professional Development.
Certification Period
The timeframe for completing continuing education (CE) and training, established with TCFP as November 1st through October 31st.
Monthly Continuing Education (CE)
Course material prescribed by Professional Development and delivered through an online platform each month.
Officer Development Program
A course all members are required to attend when promoting to types ranging from Engineer Operator up to Deputy Chief to reach proficiency in rank-specific Performance Standards.
Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)
A six-week program initiated by the District Training Officer and District or Deputy Chief when members incur 2 or more documented failures of any performance standard.
Re-Orientation Program (ROP)
A program designed to ensure members are comfortable in their gear and capable of functioning safely in an IDLH environment after being out of fire suppression for at least 180 consecutive calendar days.
ROP Workbook
An Excel Workbook used to detail program requirements and track progress, focusing on fundamental knowledge, skills, and minimum and "Rank Specific" HFD Performance Standards.
Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP)
The authority having jurisdiction for fire service standards in the State of Texas.
Basic Structure Fire Suppression
The minimum level of TCFP certification that all classified members must possess and maintain.
Initial ARFF/Hazmat Certification Course
A recognized training course that must include a minimum of 80 hours for initial certification.
Technical Rescue Certification
A requirement consisting of a minimum total of 160 hours across all disciplines as recognized by Technical Rescue Command.
TCFP Form 014
The form used to report a criminal conviction (other than Class C misdemeanor) to the Texas Commission on Fire Protection within fourteen (14) days.
CE Hour Requirements
A minimum of eighteen (18) hours of CE per certification period, plus an additional two (2) hours in structural fire protection subjects.
Territory Training
Daily training required for members assigned to Operations, consisting of a minimum of one (1) hour per tour of duty.
Multi-company Drills (MCD)
Required sessions held twice per year for every fire station and shift, with one occurring at night and one at the VJTF.
Special Operations Internship Phase 1
A knowledge and performance-based assessment phase lasting a minimum of 30 calendar days and a maximum of 45 calendar days on a 40-hour work week schedule.
Specialized Equipment
Any equipment not used for standard fire and EMS response, such as high-water vehicles, evacuation boats, and mass casualty evacuation ambulances (AMBUS).
District 22
The Hazardous Materials Response Team responsible for the training and maintenance of standards on hazmat engines.
District 11
The Technical Rescue Team responsible for the training and maintenance of standards on rescue engines.
Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH)
An environment where the ROP certifies members are prepared to function safely by demonstrating proficiency in specific training evolutions.
Form 42
The document used by Station Captains and DTOs to record performance failures, coaching, and successful completion of a PIP.
Quality Assurance Officer (QAO)
The official at the Val Jahnke Training Facility (VJTF) who oversees evaluations, remedial training, and video recording for members in a PIP.
