Dimensional Analysis
A process that evaluates units to properly set up a calculation, where units are multiplied, divided, and canceled like algebraic quantities.
Conversion Factor
A fraction formed from an equality that uses two different units to describe the same measured amount.
Density
The mass of a substance divided by its volume (Density=volume of a substancemass of a substance).
Specific Gravity
An important diagnostic factor related to kidney function, calculated as specific gravity=density of water(mLg)density of substance(mLg).
Prescribed Dosage
A conversion factor calculated as kg body weightmass of drug.
q.d.
A medical dosage abbreviation meaning once per day (give the entire amount once each day).
b.i.d.
A medical dosage abbreviation meaning twice per day (divide the total amount by 2 and give every 12 hours).
Celsius to Fahrenheit Conversion
The equation used to convert temperature from ∘C to ∘F: ∘F=(1.8×∘C)+32.0.
Fahrenheit to Celsius Conversion
The equation used to convert temperature from ∘F to ∘C: ∘C=1.8∘F−32.0.
