What processing stream is engaged during face processing?
Ventral visual stream (ventral temporal cortex)
Where is the N170 to faces generated?

The following activity advances down the ventral visual stream:
Early visual processing (~100 ms in the occipital cortex)
→ material-specific encoding (~170 ms) in the fusiform gyrus
→ cognitive integration (integration of semantic, memory, and emotional associations) (~230-700 ms) in the anterior temporal and prefrontal cortices, which results in conscious recognition
