Green paper
A document issued by the responsible department when the government is unsure about the details of a law it wishes to introduce, inviting interested parties to send comments so all views can be considered.
White paper
A document published by the government containing firm proposals for new law, taking into account views from a Green Paper, or issued without consultation converted into legal language by parlimentary draftsmen.
Public bills
The most frequent form of bill, usually involving massive public policy that affects a large section of the country and can only be created by parliment
Private bills
Bills designed to pass a law that only affects individual people or corporations rather than the whole country handed out by the local council or business’s.
Government bill
A bill introduced by the government that is likely to become law because government business takes priority in parliament.
Private member's bill
A bill introduced by an individual member of the House of Commons or Lords, which seldom becomes law.
