Linear Equation in Two Variables
An equation in variables x and y that can be written in the form y=mx+b where m and b are constants.
Linear Function
A function whose graph is a nonvertical line and has a constant rate of change.
Nonlinear Function
A function that does not have a constant rate of change, resulting in a graph that is not a line.
Solution of a Linear Equation in Two Variables
An ordered pair (x,y) that makes the equation true.
Graph of a Linear Equation in Two Variables
The set of points (x,y) in a coordinate plane that represents all solutions of the equation.
Unspecified Domain
When the domain of a linear function is not specified or obtained from a real-life context, it is understood to be all real numbers.
Discrete Domain
A domain where the points of the function are distinct and not connected on a graph.
Continuous Domain
A domain where the points of the function are connected on a graph.
Constant Rate of Change
A property of linear functions where the change in y relative to the change in x is always the same.
